Though this set is clean to look at it has a Victorian bastard past giving a  good readable text and uniform binding.

A very clean three volume history of England written by David Hume and Tobias Smollett, lavishly illustrated with plates and maps. First appearing between 1754 and 1761, this History of England was David Hume’s magnum opus, held as the standard history of England in its day and running over one hundred editions. Hume’s contribution began with Caesar’s invasion and finished with the Revolution of 1688; Smollett’s continued from the reign of William and Mary until the death of George II, and E. Farr and E. H. Nolan covered the accession of George III until the thirty-sixth year of the reign of Queen Victoria. David Hume (1711-1776) was a philosopher and writer of the Scottish Enlightenment. Continued by Tobias Smollett (1721-1771), a writer and historian known for his picaresque works; he published a supplement volume to the original work between 1760 and 1765.Lavishly illustrated throughout with plates engraved on steel, as well as an illustrated frontispiece and half-title page to each volume.
