A very nice original copy. In the 1990s, the Frost family bought the Scottish Academic Press and Oliver & Boyd imprints from Robert Maxwell’s executors and re-employed  Dr.Douglas Grant to re-birth older publications associated with his famous publishing family.

Border By-Ways & Lothian Lore (1925), written by T. Ratcliffe Barnett and published by Robert Grant & Son in Edinburgh, is a collectible Scottish travel and folklore book. It features historical and scenic essays exploring the landscapes, traditions, and hidden paths of the Scottish Borders and the Lothians.

Key Features of the Book

  • Content Focus: The essays blend natural history, local tales, and walking routes, highlighting the rich cultural heritage and landscapes of southern Scotland.
  • Photography/Illustrations: First edition copies typically feature beautiful photographic illustrations, and later editions frequently feature plates by acclaimed landscape photographer Robert M. Adam.
  • Collectibility: While the 1925 Robert Grant & Son release is the original, subsequent printings were managed by publishers like John Grant Booksellers and Oliver and Boyd.
