Giovanni Boccaccio was an Italian author and poet, a friend, student, and correspondent of Petrarch, and important Renaissance humanist, best known for the Decameron. Amorous Fiammetta, or The Elegy of Lady Fiammetta describes Fiammetta’s passion for Panfilo, a Florentine merchant, and has been described as the first psychological novel in Western literature.
