Evoking the sheer, epic scale of combat and its appalling impact across the globe, this is a unique telling of the Second World War in all its brutal intensity. Thought provoking, compelling first hand accounts from both civilians as well as those who fought, merged with evocative photographs make this an explosive read. Ideal for all the family, this is an essential chronicle of the conflict that defined the modern world.
Review: The book gives a very good overview in spite of the fairly limited space but can lead to further research on the subject. Like its predecessor WW1 it makes use of events and timelines which can be very useful to a new reader. It cannot be an in-depth source but an introduction and the reader can then take research further in specialist areas or indeed look upon the book as a one off “explanation”.
