An original  book from the library gathered by the famous Cambridge Don, computer scientist, food and wine connoisseur, Jack Arnold LANG. Note: Jack founded the Michelin Guide ‘Midsummer House’- Cambridge’s paramount restaurant. This dining experience is hidden amongst the grassy pastures and grazing cattle of Midsummer Common and perched on the banks of the River Cam. The Midsummer House experience is imaginatively curated to delight and amaze, so the surprise set menu changes regularly and is ‘Midsummer’s’ playground to showcase.

Review: This is a wonderful cookery book for any family with a sportsman/woman/youngster, bringing home the endeavours of the sporting pastimes. It has wonderful tried and tested recipes for all game and fish. Not to mention advice on handling, preparation, smoking and freezing! This book has always had pride of place in our cook book collection, but be warned there are no glossy pics to see what the end product should look like.

Barbara Hargreaves, a part time writer, was born in Rawtenstall in 1939, attending St James primary school in Haslingden, where in later life she became a Sunday school teacher. Barbara later attended Heathland private secondary school in Accrington. After leaving school, Barbara worked as a bookkeeper and secretary at Commercial mill in Haslingden. Barbara then became an auxiliary nurse at Rossendale general hospital. Upon becoming a mother, Barbara worked from home for Karrimor, later working part time at Baxenden Chemicals and Hollands Pies. In 1979, she got her dream job as bursar at St John’s Stonefold primary school, retiring at the age of 60, moving with Gordon to Clayton le Moors. Barbara loved dancing and attended evening classes for sewing. Barbara cherished family beach holidays across the UK and later enjoyed travelling throughout Europe with Gordon.
