Please view the photographs: I’ve read many of Blofeld’s books and in my opinion this is the pick of the litter! Condition: Very Good. First Edition. The author, a renowned student of Chinese religion and, studied the religion with Taoist sages in their retreats on sacred mountains in the 1940s. The result is the present volume, one of the best-presented descriptions of Taoism [Daoism], China’s only indigenous religion. He describes the faith in all of its forms – popular, yogic, philosophical and mystic – and above all a faith intimately connected with the many wonders and lessons of nature.

Reviews

  • This was referenced by Stephen Skinner in one of his books on Magic which grabbed my interest. Having some experience with both Buddhism and Taoism, I found John Blofeld’s experience was priceless. He does mention that this is a composite story using the same characters to give the story continuity although the experiences were real. The stories of Demon’s, Gods and Immortals really gave me an emotional ride and new insights.

  • An exciting journey into pre communist China. This book is equal parts the travelogue of epic journeys through a truly mysterious land, and the teachings of the magical beings he was able to communicate with there.
