A solid book, good to read, but not the definite book on this subject
Review: “The Battle of Hastings” by Jim Bradbury is a rather dry analytical account of the battle. It is however extremely comprehensive, covering the military aspects in more detail than other books on the subject. Although Jim Bradbury is clearly fascinated by the events of 1066 his writing is not particularly emotive and he struggles to purvey the drama of the events he is describing. He analyses each aspect of the Battle of Hastings from the weapons and armour to the location of the battle, to the tactics used on the day. Although his writing is easy enough to understand his use of grammar and frequent repetition suggests he is a historian first and a writer second. I would recommend this book if you wanted a good examination of the different aspects of the battle itself but it is far from being the definitive book on the subject.
