Review – ‘My interest in ships and boats of all types and sizes stems from my passions for shipwrecks. In researching the wide variety of vessels available to the scuba diver I frequently find areas where information is at a premium – none more so than with former Royal Navy Trawlers and Tugboats. Having studied much of the content of this book, I have reached the conclusion it is one of the finest works on the subject of RN Trawlers ever printed and I am already trying to find this author’s Part One on the same subject. I really do congratulate the author on an excellent job of work and wonder if he might consider doing something similar with RN Tugboats. Just a thought! As for the work itself, the first thing that struck me was that the book is very heavy. This is due to the publisher having used 568 pages of high-quality paper in which we find no fewer than 23 chapters of information relating to Trawlers from the Abelard to the Zwarte Zee – all set out in alphabetical order. The information for each of the many hundreds of vessels included is basic and brief – but exactly what I had expected and consists of; Original name, RN name, displacement, engines, armament, port regn. no, pennant no, date launched, builder, owner, date requisitioned, service and fate.
