A great two volume edition stuffed full of excellent references

Review ‘My interest in ships and boats of all types and sizes stems from my passions for shipwrecks. In researching the wide variety of vessels available to the scuba diver I frequently find areas where information is at a premium – none more so than with former Royal Navy Trawlers and Tugboats. Having studied much of the content of this book, I have reached the conclusion it is one of the finest works on the subject of RN Trawlers ever printed and I am already trying to find this author’s Part One on the same subject. I really do congratulate the author on an excellent job of work and wonder if he might consider doing something similar with RN Tugboats. Just a thought! As for the work itself, the first thing that struck me was that the book is very heavy. This is due to the publisher having used 568 pages of high-quality paper in which we find no fewer than 23 chapters of information relating to Trawlers from the Abelard to the Zwarte Zee – all set out in alphabetical order. The information for each of the many hundreds of vessels included is basic and brief – but exactly what I had expected and consists of; Original name, RN name, displacement, engines, armament, port regn. no, pennant no, date launched, builder, owner, date requisitioned, service and fate.
