The rendition of a select lecture given at London’s Athenaeum Club.
This unique copy belonged to a very prominent Cambridge don, Jack Arnold LANG, who is famed as being one of the progenitors of the Raspberry Pi Foundation is a UK-based educational charity founded in 2008 to promote the study of computer science and related subjects globally, particularly among young people. It is best known for initiating the Raspberry Pi series of single-board computers. These are now designed and sold by Raspberry Pi Holdings, a publicly traded company of which the Foundation is the largest shareholder. While legally distinct, both entities share a mission to democratise access to computing.
The Athenaeum is a private members’ club in London, founded in 1824. It is primarily a club for men and women with intellectual interests, and particularly (but not exclusively) for those who have attained some distinction in science, engineering, literature or the arts. Humphry Davy and Michael Faraday were the first chairman and secretary and 51 Nobel Laureates have been members.
The clubhouse is located at 107 Pall Mall at the corner of Waterloo Place. It was designed by Decimus Burton in the Neoclassical style, and built by the company of Decimus’s father, James Burton, the pre-eminent London property developer. Decimus was described by architectural scholar Guy Williams as “the designer and prime member of the Athenaeum, one of London’s grandest gentlemens’ [sic] clubs”.
“Publisher” in this context: The term “Publisher” is likely a mislabeling or a misunderstanding of its role. The Athenaeum Club doesn’t publish books or newspapers in the traditional sense. Instead, it’s an organization that historically brought together and facilitated the exchange of ideas among influential individuals from various fields, including literature, science, and the arts.
A balanced lecture on the contrast between Peace and War. A succinct exploration of their history, philosophy, and human nature.
