Reviews:

Michael Hickey’s work “Out of the Sky: A History of Airborne Warfare” goes beyond paratroops operations to consider the entire gamut of airborne warfare, including troop delivery by parachutes, gliders, helicopters, and recce craft. Although the focus is on airborne operations conducted during WWII by all major belligerents, postwar developments are also discussed; the United States airmobile/air assault experience in Vietnam receives special attention. The author’s objective is to demonstrate the utility, complexity, and changing nature of operations in three dimensions. Overall, this is a dated but very relevant book.

This book is wonderful! It details the history of Airborne Warfare from the 19th century up till the book was written. Different chapters detail the history of Airborne Troops from different countries which include America, Germany, British, Russian, and more oddballs. Highly recommended for anyone interested in Paratroopers.
