Review: Gavin Weightman has done an excellent job of describing the important role the Thames has played in the history of London. He has wisely limited this book to the stretch of the river that flows through the main section of the city and has included topics that span from Roman London right up to the modern city. The book is an enjoyable read as Weightman does not get overly detailed with facts, dates, and figures. The book is meant to give the reader an overall sense of the history and importance of London’s river and this it does very well.
