Review: First, this is not an easy read, but it is well worth the time and effort. What you get from your troubles is insight to two men values, placing country and citizenry above ego, party, and short sided solutions. Their abhorrence of the “Alien and Sedition Acts”, an 18th century grab that exceeds the boldness of “Obamacare”, was brought down by the leadership of these two men. The Kentucky and Virginia Resolutions were not taught in any of my classes, but they should be taught to all Americans. Ms Koch does a very good job discussing the behind the scenes actions to persuade the State legislatures of the need to ratify the Constitution. And these two men were heavily involved in the first four Presidential Administrations, covering 28 years of a newly minted America, with the troubles that went with finding a place in the world. Well documented, exceedingly well researched.
Adrienne Koch (September 10, 1912 – August 21, 1971) was an American historian. Her speciality was American history of the eighteenth century.
