This guide identifies herbs for safe, natural home treatments, explains how to choose and prepare herbal remedies; features more than 70 herbs, and offers treatments for more than 80 everyday ailments. The book is presented in two sections. The first section, “The Whole Plant”, lists and describes the active ingredients found in herbs, explains how to collect herbs for drying and storage, gives instructions for preparing herbal remedies – for internal use from infusions to mouthwash and for external use, from creams and lotions to compresses. A detailed chart lists the major and subsidairy herbs and the ailments they treat, followed by a detailed chart on diet and nutrition. The second section, “The Ailments”, describes the body’s systems and the ailments and symptoms of disease that each commonly presents. For example, cramps and varicose veins are listed and described under “The Circulatory System”, and asthma, coughs and bronchitis under “The Respiratory System”.
