A work providing full and detailed individual profiles in chronological order of more than 136 former pupils who attended Horsham Grammar School (the college of Richard Collyer) to later serve as military personnel and perished during the Great War, and those who also became fatal casualties during the Second World War. Produced in a very limited print run, this is a handsome hardback of some 762 pages, complete with 390 photographs and many maps that illustrate major offensives, battles and individual unit actions, describing where the casualties fought and died. A large number of War Diaries, Squadron Operational Daily Records, primary sources, official histories and individual first-hand accounts have been researched over many years and are incorporated to allow as full a memorial to the fallen as possible. A volume that is not to be ignored, and one that if the reader is also contemplating his or her tribute to a particular town, village, school etc, will serve as a blueprint of how to do it justice and bring to life a dry list of names and dates

Review

A tour de force in the popular genre of the modern memorial Roll of Honour. Mr Cooper has wisely not restricted himself to just the Great War as so many compilers do but has also encompassed the Second World War within his research criteria. This is a huge 422-page oversized hardback that comes in weighing just over 3 kg
