Illustrated throughout, this book is the story of the month in the spring of 1943 – “Black May” as the U-boat crews called it – when it became clear that the Allies could and would defeat the submarine threat. Gannon draws on personal recollections.
Review: Excellent breakdown of the battle in the Atlantic focusing on the tide turning for the allies. The writer doesn’t just repeat what others have said or concluded, he’s done his own research and conducted his own interviews. It’s a bit broader than the title suggests, using the month as a focal point while ranging over the whole U-Boat war, so its pretty comprehensive in that respect. A good read if you’re into this particular part of WWII history.
