  • An exceptional book

The title of this book, Adventures of Ideas, bears two meanings, both applicable to the subject-matter. One meaning is the effect of certain ideas in promoting the slow drift of mankind towards civilization. This is the Adventure of Ideas in the history of mankind. The other meaning is the author’s adventure in framing a speculative scheme of ideas which shall be explanatory of the historical adventure.

Review: Whitehead I find the most insightful philosopher of the past hundred years. He unusually brought to bear on his philosophical thinking a near-universal sympathy with the humanities. His understanding of the nature of science and the nature of its ontology is outstanding and clarifies so many issues that cloud contemporary misunderstanding of science – both the vision that sees science and truth as identical, and the cynical post-modern writing off of science as just another set of myths. He was a reflective genius. Read this book!

An English mathematician and philosopher, Alfred North Whitehead provided the foundation for the school of thought known as process philosophy. With an academic career that spanned from Cambridge to Harvard, Whitehead wrote extensively on mathematics, metaphysics, and philosophy. He died in Massachusetts in 1947.
