Every one of the immortal Sherlock Holmes novels appears in this single volume, unabridged, embellished with beautiful original illustrations, and reasonably priced. The classic works include: A Study in Scarlet, the very first Holmes adventure; The Sign of Four, where Holmes solves the case of a missing treasure in India; The Hound of the Baskervilles, in which Holmes and Watson find themselves involved in an age-old curse; and The Valley of Fear, with a battle between Holmes and his nemesis, Professor Moriarty. Remarkably affordable and complete. Reproductions of old illustrations are enchanting.

Review: When Arthur Conan Doyle created Sherlock Holmes he had no idea that this fictional detective would be taken into the hearts of the general public for generations to come and that many an actor would relish the opportunity to play him on stage and screen. Unfortunately Arthur Conan Doyle grew to resent his most famous creation and tried to kill him off, thankfully the outcry was so strong that he had no choice but to resurrect Sherlock Holmes. This book is all the short stories with original illustrations in one complete book and I love it! It’s a must for Sherlock Holmes fans.

NOTE: This is an original  book from the library gathered by the famous Cambridge Don, computer scientist, food and wine connoisseur, Jack Arnold LANG. Note: Jack founded the Michelin Guide ‘Midsummer House’- Cambridge’s paramount restaurant. This dining experience is hidden amongst the grassy pastures and grazing cattle of Midsummer Common and perched on the banks of the River Cam.

In 2008, Jack was one of the co-founders of the Raspberry Pi Foundation, alongside other members of the Department, and acted as the Foundation’s Chair. The project’s original goals were modest: to build and distribute low-cost computers for prospective applicants to our Computer Science degree. Initially the project was a “success disaster”, as Jack would say, as demand far outstripped the low-scale manufacturing plans. Ultimately the Raspberry Pi became the UK’s most successful computer with more than 60 million sold to date. Jack was drawn to the educational possibilities of the Raspberry Pi, its potential uses in emerging economies and the way it could support self-directed learning.
