The Caxtons: A Family Picture is an 1849 Victorian novel by Edward Bulwer-Lytton that was popular in its time. The book was first serialized anonymously in Blackwood’s Magazine from April 1848 to October 1849, and first published in novel form (in three volumes) in Britain in 1849. In the United States, it was serialized in Harper’s Magazine (1850–53) and Littell’s Living Age (1850-52). The novel was “instantly popular” in Britain and also sold 35,000 copies within three years of its release in the United States.

Not to be confused with his son, Robert Bulwer-Lytton, 1st Earl of Lytton, Governor-General of India. Edward George Earle Lytton Bulwer-Lytton, 1st Baron Lytton, PC (25 May 1803 – 18 January 1873) was an English writer and politician. He served as a Whig member of Parliament from 1831 to 1841 and a Conservative from 1851 to 1866. He was Secretary of State for the Colonies from June 1858 to June 1859, choosing Richard Clement Moody as founder of British Columbia.
