Recently, I reluctantly bought a secondhand copy of The World of Model Trains as it had some notes on a W P F Kelly a wealthy model railway enthusiast, I’m researching As I thought, the book is not a particularly good survey of the World of Model Trains when it it was published in 1970 and time has not been kind to it. How can anyone write a book on model trains and omit any mention of Hornby Dublo trains made by Meccano? Ditto barely any mention of their great rivals Tri-ang and Trix. No mention at all of the famous James Stanley Beeson the model locomotive engineer whose models change hands for thousands of pounds Some nice pictures though…but I’m glad I never bought this book new and at full price !
