This writer is not to be missed. Anyone who is the least bit moved by what Schweitzer writes at the end of his life on this topic should definitely acquire his ‘sketch’, as he calls it : ‘The Mystery of the Kingdom of God – The Secret of Jesus’ Messiahship and Passion. Read it in German if possible, but the translation by Walter Lowrie is very good. Also Schweitzer’s book: ‘The Mysticism of Paul the Apostle’ (translated by William Montgomery, B.D.) is second to none on this topic, especially inasmuch as he shows how Paul was aware of the Kingdom of God as within us, as the “dying and rising again of Christ within us”, the very contribution by Paul that was ignored as inappropriate by the Churches, when they chose instead Paul’s secondary theme, i.e. justification by faith.
