“The Kama Sutra” is an ancient Indian text on human sexual behavior, dating back to the 2nd century BCE. The text is attributed to Vatsyayana, a Hindu philosopher, and is considered one of the most influential works on human sexuality in world literature. Richard Francis Burton was a British explorer and translator who, in 1883, published an English translation of “The Kama Sutra.” Burton’s translation was groundbreaking at the time, as it was the first English-language version of the text to be widely available. Burton’s translation included extensive footnotes and commentary, providing valuable cultural and historical context for Western readers. “The Kama Sutra” is a comprehensive treatise on all aspects of sexual behavior, including the nature of desire, the art of seduction, and the various sexual positions and techniques. However, the text is much more than just a manual of sexual practices. It also includes chapters on marriage, family life, and social etiquette, providing a holistic view of human relationships and behavior. Burton’s translation of “The Kama Sutra” caused controversy at the time, as Victorian society was highly conservative and sexually repressed. However, his translation also helped to bring the text to a wider audience, and it has since become a cultural icon, influencing countless works of literature, art, and popular culture.

Review: This book was a let down. I have read various other forms of this type of book. It’s 252 pages with no pictures or demonstrations which to me makes these types of books useless without the drawings or picture demonstrations. This book reads more like an old school text book your teacher would give you to read in health class or sex ed. If you are getting this for pointers to spice up your love life … forget it. this book will most likely put you to sleep seeing how there are no pictures or drawings to demonstrate the positions. This is one of the most boring books I have ever read about human sexuality.

NOTE: This is an original  book from the library gathered by the famous Cambridge Don, computer scientist, food and wine connoisseur, Jack Arnold LANG. Note: Jack founded the Michelin Guide ‘Midsummer House’- Cambridge’s paramount restaurant. This dining experience is hidden amongst the grassy pastures and grazing cattle of Midsummer Common and perched on the banks of the River Cam.

In 2008, Jack was one of the co-founders of the Raspberry Pi Foundation, alongside other members of the Department, and acted as the Foundation’s Chair. The project’s original goals were modest: to build and distribute low-cost computers for prospective applicants to our Computer Science degree. Initially the project was a “success disaster”, as Jack would say, as demand far outstripped the low-scale manufacturing plans. Ultimately the Raspberry Pi became the UK’s most successful computer with more than 60 million sold to date. Jack was drawn to the educational possibilities of the Raspberry Pi, its potential uses in emerging economies and the way it could support self-directed learning.
