A very sound rendition of a difficult subject. Please view the photographs for a flavour of this excellent book. Bazin overrides ‘nationality’ to investigate the stylistic principle that synthesised European art in the 17th and 18th centuries. He looks at the principles styles (Gothic Mannerism Realism Classicism Baroque Rococo and Neo-classicism); modes (Romanticism Exoticism Art Nouveau Academies & factories Regression & Trompe l’oeil) and themes (The Church The Court The City).
