              A very readable copy telling a very Christian story.

The first part of this book is about Hugh Redwood himself – kind of autobiographical but written in the 3rd person. It speaks of how, as a young upcoming reporter, he became a Christian through the Salvation Army. His parents were against his decision. He carried on in the organisation, but then turned his back on it all for the next 25 or so years of his life when he travelled extensively as a reporter, married, etc. Then, unexpectedly, he reverted back to God in mid-life again.

The 2nd part of the book relates his work in the Salvation Army since turning back to God (also written in the 3rd person). The 2nd part is really incredible. It’s amazing to read of the social history of those times – life for so many Londoners in what was referred to as ‘the slums’, when rickets was rife, it was considered “normal” for city kids to be sick, etc. Yet the Light shone even in that darkness through the Salvation Army. Some pretty miraculous stories.
