Review: I was a bit tentative about buying this book due to some of the negative reviews. However, I thought I could always return it if it’s falling apart or looked worn, but I was worrying over nothing. I was impressed straight away with the quality. DK are brilliant at producing cost-effective books with high resolution photos and informative text. The author has certainly done his homework, as the information provided on each herb is just right. The book is laid out alphabetically, using Latin names, the index (at the back) will guide you to the remedies and each ailment, along with the herbs more common names. There’s a large section on how to make use of the herbs for tinctures, decoctions, salves, ointment etc. I’ve already collected, dried and started to store a large amount of herbs for the leaner months and this week I’m starting on making a tincture, just got to buy the vodka 😉 The text is clear, the descriptions are concise and easy to understand. Not every herb is photographed, but we have Google and other apps on our phones to help, that would be my only slightly negative comment. I’ve learnt so much in the few days I’ve been reading the book. I would love to see the author and DK maybe condense the book down into a collection of pocket sized books so we can take them out and about with us! This book is a must for any library, book shelf or coffee table if you’re interested in nature, plants and health (or not) as it’s just packed with so much information!
