Penned by Edward Bulwer-Lytton (1803-1873) a British politician and writer, known for coining the phrases ‘The pen is mightier than the sword’ and ‘It was a dark and stormy night’. His work was extremely widely read and popular during his lifetime, however, it has seen a steady decline since his death. He wrote in a plethora of styles and genres, producing work in verse and prose across styles including historical fiction, romance, mystery and science fiction. His works include ‘Godolphin’, ‘The Last Days of Pompeii’ and ‘Paul Clifford’, as well as the plays ‘Richelieu’ and ‘Money’.’The Pilgrims of the Rhine’ is an adventure novel which takes place in Germany.Illustrated with twenty-seven steel engravings by D.
