Review: A book by a British architecture and archaeologist. The book is chronologically set up, starting from before the Hittites, then introducing the Greeks and Persians. There are many photographs from the ruins of old cities, statues, tablets and walls as well as maps, coins and drawings in the book. It is really a very interesting history of Turkey’s Anatolian Land. There is a chapter about Alexander the Great as well. Then there comes the Romans and the book ends with the influence of Christians in Anatolia. The ‘Seven Cities’ chapter introduces the most famous ancient cities in Anatolia, namely, Smyrna (Izmir), Ephesos (Efes), Pergamon (Bergama), Priene (Güllübahçe), Miletos (Milet), Didiyma (Didim) and Halikarnassos (Bodrum). I quite enjoyed reading it. If you want to visit Turkey, you will most likely to see many of the ancient sites mentioned in the book, so I recommend you to read this book before going to Turkey. It is a history, archaeology and travel book at the same time.
