Review: I discovered this book 20 years ago and it’s been a favourite ever since. Yes, Ms Saxton knows her onions, well, not so much onions as her garden is a tiny one, but she’s a genuine plantswoman, and moreover, this is a brilliant, wacky, laugh-out-loud read about the hazards and pleasures of gardening, by a woman who can really write and confesses to her failures as well as her successes. Slugs and snails, she says, can read. But only in Latin. I believe her. Buy it – you won’t be disappointed.
