A well kept book which remains a good reference book.

A German Review: What seemed to me after buying my dog! The information I was able to gather about the Manchester Terrier here in the German-speaking area was not only sparse, but also not very encouraging: an extremely difficult race should be the Manchester Terrier and not suitable for beginners, because it is not easy to educate. In addition, it was equipped with a strong hunting drive and, moreover is often happily, dismantling the domestic furniture. Then I came across websites that claimed the exact opposite: Manchester is therefore an “insider tip” among the dog breeds, because it is unpretentious and easy to care for dog…

Not only in this country, but also in his native England, the Manchester Terrier is extremely rare and is now on the list of endangered breeds, which also explains the lack of sufficient information. So I came across this, already older book, which finally brought light into the dark:

As the name suggests, the Manchester Terrier comes from England. There he was used as a dog in industry primarily as a “ratter” (catching mice and rats), which also gives hints about his basic temperament: it is very lively, intelligent and workable and can be kept in the city without any problems. Mental exercise is as important to him as physical activity. What may be perceived by some as “difficult” are the contradictory characteristics of this breed: on the one hand, Manchester is very docile, sporty, attentive and lightning fast, on the other hand he is cuddly and loves to cuddle. He is very fond of his owner and wants to be there everywhere, but still remains self-sufficient. His upbringing requires iron consistency, because the Manchis would like to be reminded of the limits set, but at the same time he is extremely sensitive to an excess of rigor or even punishment. But otherwise it is also true that every single dog is a “surprise package” and has its own personality.

In addition to the description of posture and breed standards, the book also provides helpful hints on the acquisition of puppies and how to train this dog breed. This was important for me, because the Manchi is ideal for all activities, such as dog racing, dogdance or obedience.

The numerous beautiful photos complete the book and make it a pleasure. In my opinion, a so-called “must” for every owner of this wonderful and absolutely adorable breed of dog.
