The biography marked Charles’s 25th anniversary as prince of Wales, and coincided with Dimbleby’s documentary about Charles where he confessed to adultery, which led to Diana’s retaliatory interview with Martin Bashir. The documentary and book caused a sensation in the press, but Dimbleby’s biography is sympathetic, avoids controversy, and sidesteps Charles’s marital troubles. An in-depth biography of Prince Charles discusses his preparation for the role of king, the upbringing of his sons, the constitutional implications of his separation from the Princess of Wales, and his future vision of the monarchy.

Review: This book gives a detailed insight into the life of The King when he was still Prince Charles. Some of it I found really interesting but other chapters were rather long winded. I suppose it depends on which parts of his life you find most interesting, for example, there is quite a lot of detail about his time in the Navy and that didn’t interest me in particular but it might be for others. Its a heavy book, so if you’re holding it up you might get neck ache! best to read it at a table.
