  • F.B.A. provides an in-depth photographic presentation of this item to stimulate your feeling and touch. More traditional book descriptions are immediately available.

The first implement that springs to mind in the context of drawing is the humble pencil. This is a highly versatile tool, and ideal for quick sketches, but there are many other exciting drawing media, from charcoal, Indian ink, and conte for monochrome work, to vast ranges of coloured pencils, pastels and coloured inks for more “painterly” effects.

  • I really enjoyed reading this book and read it from cover to cover in a couple of days! Having worked in oils because I love the colours, I was apprehensive about painting in acrylics, because I thought the colours would be garish and I was unsure about the array of acrylic mediums available. However, I wanted to paint in a faster medium and Marylin Scott’s book gave me all the information I needed. Her book is concise, well written and laid out, with lots of illustrations. I found it inspiring and finally felt confident enough to paint a seascape for a friend, which I’d been putting off for months!

  • I got this book because of the other reviews I’d read and I’m glad I did. I’m new to acrylic painting in that I’ve only had a few brushes and a few tubes of paint to work with. This book opened up a big variety of types of medium, tools, basic to pro tips. I had no idea acrylic painting had so much involved! What I liked the most is that it didn’t tell you the most expensive ways of accumulating your materials, it just tells you what’s out there and gives good recommendations for basic or pro.

The Author,  Marylin Scott is a professional artist who works across a wide range of media. She studied painting at the Guildford School of Art and the Royal Academy of Painting in London. She is a respected practical art author.
