A book about the Turin Shroud and the Resurrection
The first time I read this book I found it explosive and utterly convincing. Before reading it I had been warned that Kersten over emphasises the conspiracy side of things and shortly after this book was published some of the people implicated in this alleged “conspiracy” have presented evidence to the contrary. The book ,however, even after these statements by people still stands as a shining gem in the area of shroud research.
It unlocks the idea of Jesus having survived the crucifixion – and by showing that the Shroud supports this theory it also presents solid evidence for why people in the Church would want to suppress it.
One of the best sections for me was the author’s attempts at replicating the image of the man of the Shroud. The photographs included provide a fascinating insight into the whole process and support the authors’ theories.
A rare book now – if you ever see a copy – snap it up!
Reviews:
We read this book in original German while we were on a research trip in the Swiss Federation. We purchased it again recently in English. It is a thought provoking, well researched book. We are not members or believers of any organised religion. It is now time for people to look at the history of Christianism from an objective point of view. We do not think that Rabbi Jesus became a buddhist as there was no strong base of Buddhism in the Kashmir region at that time or thereafter. However there is scope for further investigation into the idea that Jesus Christ went to the East. For example there are persistent legends in the Orient that Jesus visited Japan ( this legend originated well before Japan knew Christianism introduced by the Jesuit Xavier in the middle age.)It is a great book to read before one goes to Torino, Italy to enhance one’s appreciation of history of Turin’s Shroud.
This book (and its sequel(s) by the same authors), based on careful forensic and historical exploration, reveals Jesus free from the ecclesiastical myths that have been besieging him. No wonder the established churches can only try to deal with it by ignoring it! The revelation that he was fully human and without supernatural powers is a source of enormous hope and encouragement for the rest of us.
