often referred to as “the bible of the amateur botanist”, illustrated with ninety-six coloured plates. This work ran more than fifty editions, such was its popularity. It describes the plants of Britain, with their common and Latin names and their uses. The author also published a number of works on botany and natural history, such as ‘Forest Trees of Britain’, ‘Sea Weeds’ and ‘The Cottage Flower Garden’.
Written by Charles Alexander Johns (1811-1874), an English botanist and priest. This is the thirteenth impression. Containing ninety-six coloured plates by E. N. Gwatkin, as well as a number of illustrations through the text. Undated; dated from other impressions.
