FIRST EDITION – a really lovely book at a bargain price
1999, oversize hardcover edition, V&A Publications, London. Splendid 144-page study showing the various styles that emerged during Victoria’s reign, from 1837 to 1901. There were revivals of Gothic and Rococo, a new fascination with anything from the East and the appearance of Art Nouveau, and the Arts and Crafts Movement. Here are 107 total plates and drawings, many of them in full colour, showing collector’s pieces to die for. Many of these pieces presently reside in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. The author is curator there of prints, drawings and paintings.
