History & Provenance

Frank Wasley was born in Peckam in South London. He was a painter, watercolourist and draughtsman. An admirer of Turner, he mainly painted between 1880 and 1914, exhibited at the Royal Academy and in provincial galleries. He trained as a musician and had no formal artistic training. He produced many paintings of Venice. One of his first works was purchased by Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool. He lived and had a studio in Whitby for while.
