Konrad Lorenz is often referred to as “father of the greylag geese.” He has devoted a year to their study. Sharing their lives at close quarters, he has truly entered their skins, and in the process has created one of the most vivid, beguiling, and entertaining documents to have emerged from ethology, the science of which he is cofounder.

Reviews:

  • I used to get this book out of the library back in the 1980s because of the beautiful photographs. I was recently looking for images of greylag geese and remembered this wonderful book by Konrad Lorenz. I have reread the book and it is fascinating as it describes the behaviours of these greylag geese through a year. The photos are stunning.

  • I love Konrad Lorenz’s books, and this Year of the Greylag Goose with Man Meets Dog and King Solomon’s Ring are must haves. Fascinating read supported by excellent photos. I still can’t tell two geese apart but they’ll never be part of the background scenery again.
