Item information

Description

Newly rebound in brown calf with red title plate, gilt banding and lettering.

Originally, published as an early paper back to which a variety of maps and prints were added, this original third edition has recently been superbly rebound by the renown bookbinder Mr. Brian Cole. It is a pleasure to view, hold, and read. A fantastic copy.

Dr. Belcombe became interested in Scarborough water due to Belcombe’s association and learning from Geneva and the Schweppes mineral water family.

Dr. Belcombe, at the time of his Scarborough writing was a York resident, is less well known via his daughter’s association with Anne Lister –  Gentleman Jack has captivated lesbians around the world with its depiction of the whirlwind romance between Anne Lister and Ann Walker. The show also explores Lister’s lifelong entanglement with Mariana Belcombe – which lasted through Mariana’s marriage to Charles Lawton, and even rekindled during Lister’s relationship with Ann Walker.
