Black and white frontispiece steel engraving, black and white wood engravings, 2 folding maps, xxiv+730pp, 9 1/2 x 6 1/2 inches, embossed cloth covered boards (hardbound). Wear to covers, tears along spine and fraying to head of spine; previous owner’s name in ink to front endpaper, occasional faint soiling, small Map of South Africa separated in two pieces along middle fold, Map of Dr. Livingstone’s route in very good condition; overall good, clean condition. An extensive account of Livingstone’s travels in South Africa. Amongst the many interesting illustrations is a tipped in double-page wood engraving, a panoramic view of “The Victoria Falls of the Leeambye or Zambesi River, Called by the Natives Mosyoatunyo (Smoke-Sounding)”; the two John Arrowsmith maps are “Map of south Africa” and “Map of Dr. Livingstone’s Route”.
